She Speaks 2013

She Speaks 2013

So, I realize I may have been holding out on some of you. I’ve been busy preparing to attend my first-ever Christian conference.

Sure I’ve attended professional conferences related to work in the past, but a gathering of Spirit-filled women, inspirational speakers, and the chance to sit down one-on-one with Christian publishers and literary agents?

Um, nope. Haven’t done that!

shespeaks folders

I like to reuse my kids’ doodled-on folders, so that’s always a good chance to get out the fun scrapbooking supplies. The folder on the right will hold info for my book pitches, and the file folder houses my writing samples.

So, in 11 days, I will be in North Carolina, attending She Speaks 2013. The two-day conference takes place July 26-27th, and I feel blessed to be attending. My parents will be watching my three kids {and if you knew my three-year-old son, you’d know what a challenge this can be — sweet as he is, he does a spot-on Energizer Bunny impersonation– and he doesn’t nap}. My husband will be getting by without my company and cooking, and our checkbook has also been liberated from a nice chunk of change for conference, hotel, and airfare. And, my kids — well, I’d say they’ll miss me, and I’m sure on some level, they will — but you’d have to see my parents’ farm to understand how well occupied they will be. Let’s just imagine Disneyland for farm lovers…

So, I am very grateful for sacrifices made all around for this weekend.

I finally broke down and bought a laptop bag for my trip. Cute, isn’t it?

I’ll be presenting a book proposal on Friday, the 26th, and preparing that has been a journey unto itself the last month or so. {If any of you feel the urge to pray that afternoon, after lunch, and then again, late afternoon, before dinner, well, I wouldn’t stop you…}

she speaks cards

Don’t you just love my repurposed business card holder {aka, altoid tin}?

I even got new cards, and this time, splurged for the back side printing, which includes a photo.

I’ll be meeting some ladies down in North Carolina, too. They’re friends I made through Holley Gerth’s book launch team, which we all affectionately refer to by its acronym anymore, the GSDT {God-sized Dream Team}.

My roommate is the prayer warrior, dust-bunny-collecting, writing-in-her-closet Christine Wright. {I’ll let her field the questions on that description!}

Life coach, blogger, and author Laurie Wallin will be having dinner with me Friday night. She just finished a book, and I’m pretty staggered by that, so I might have to ask for her autograph!

Carey Bailey has the yummiest site around, combining the concept of our cravings for delicious things {think cupcakes!} with our cravings for God, which — unlike sugary  treats — always leave us filled and satisfied. She just quit her job and got her life coach certification, so I’m so thrilled for her. She’s pitching a book too, so we can bite our nails together.

Single mom and creative guru {I’m not sure what she doesn’t do! Think photography, graphic design, crafty things…) Sonya McCllough will be there as well. I’m so pumped to meet Sonya.

And, of course, there’s author and (in)Courage founder Holley Gerth, who’ll be speaking at the conference. I can’t wait to see her smiling face in person. She’s such a real, encouraging, down-to-earth and God-filled person. I know she will bless everyone at She Speaks with her message.

So how about you? Are any of you readers out there attending She Speaks, or have you in the past? I’d love to hear from you!
